Paediatric Training:
Our team includes four doctors who each have been trained in Paediatrics.
Newborn Babies:
Our Paediatric care starts at birth. As part of our structured (and free) ante natal care we offer two week and six week wellness checks to our newest patients. We are also happy to address any concerns during the neonatal period.
Under 6 GP Card:
We encourage all parents to register their new babies on the Under Six free GP card which we accept in our practice. This means your baby will continue to be seen free after the Ante Natal free cover stops (at six weeks). To register go to gpvisitcard.ie
Childhood Immunisation:
We provide the national free childhood immunisation program in the practice which starts at two months of age and continues to 13 months. For details of that program please click on the HSE information site here.
Meningitis B Vaccine
We are happy to provide this vaccine to all children who have not been vaccinated. Unfortunately there is no catch-up program paid for by the HSE so there is a charge for all patients. It has to be booked in advance as it is not always available from the suppliers.
The HSE has introduced this vaccine for all new born babies born on or after October 1st 2016. To date there is no catchup program. For further HSE information on this vaccine click here.
Chickenpox Vaccine
We also provide the Chickenpox Vaccine to all children over one year of age. At this age a course of two injections is necessary. Again it is not covered by the HSE so we do have to charge a fee for both supplying and administering this vaccine. This also has to be booked as we carry a limited supply of the vaccine. Developmental Checks
We offer standard developmental checks in the second and fifth year including height and weight. We also discuss any relevant concerns and other preventative measures. We explore any concerns that may arise at an older age regarding normal development.
Dermatology
Small children often develop Eczema and other worrying conditions. We provide active management of this condition referring to our consultant colleagues only when necessary. We also have a cryotherapy clinic in the practice for treating warts, verrucas and other minor skin conditions. For further information click here.
We have a lot of experience in the practice in the various other skin problems and concerns which may arise in childhood and in the majority of cases can manage them in Harbour Health.
Asthma Clinic
We offer a structured Asthma clinic for all children once they are diagnosed, seeing them three months after diagnosis and then annually or more often if there is a need. At this clinic we review correct use of inhalers, check understanding of medications, review home preventive measures and update the Asthma Treatment Plan. Where the child is old enough we also check lung function.
